ARRAIGNMENT

 

  1. Kenneth W. Yates – 09CR2287.  (Murder, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Failure to Stop and Render Aid, Fleeing or Evading Police, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Attempt to Disarm Peace Officer, Assault 3rd Degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle with Expired License, No Vehicle Insurance)  Mr. Yates (DOB 10/27/83) is charged in connection with the August 1, 2009 crash which resulted in the death of bicyclist John Carr at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park.  Arraignment has already occurred.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Friday, October 2, Division 13, at 9:45 A.M.  Kristi Gray is the prosecutor.

 

 

HEARING

 

  1. James Ray Cable – 04CR1003.  (Murder [2 Counts], Rape 1st Degree [2 Counts])  Mr. Cable (DOB 6/27/48) is charged in connection with the 1986 death of Oma Marie Bird and the 1989 death of Helen V. Booth.  A Hearing is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, Division 10, at 9:00 A.M.  Tom Van De Rostyne is the prosecutor.

 

  1. Alexander L. Ruff – 08CR3686.  (Murder, Robbery 1st Degree [3 Counts])  Mr. Ruff (DOB 3/30/85) is charged in connection with the November 24, 2008 shooting death of Mohamed Abdelrahman at the New York Fashions clothing store at 2049 Lytle Street in the Portland neighborhood.  A Status Hearing is scheduled for Friday, August 14, Division 3, at 9:15 A.M.  Mark Baker is the prosecutor.

 

 

PRE - TRIAL CONFERENCE

 

1.      Jeffrey M. Bynum – 09CR0828.  (Murder, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Tampering with Physical Evidence)  Mr. Bynum (DOB 9/30/81) is charged in connection with the March 10, 2009 shooting death of James DeSpain in the 300 block of North 18th Street.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Monday, August 10, Division 5, at 9:00 A.M.  Evan Spalding is the prosecutor.

 

2.      Christopher L. Gordon – 09CR1028.  (Murder, Tampering with Physical Evidence)  Mr. Gordon (DOB 9/10/89) is charged in connection with the March 24, 2009 shooting death of Norman Beals, Jr. at 23rd and Kentucky streets.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Monday, August 10, Division 9, at 10:30 A.M.  Chris Hutchison is the prosecutor.

 

3.      Joe N. Gaither (DOB 10/23/78) / Emmanuel Belten, Jr. (DOB 7/17/72) / Edward Cecil, Jr. (DOB 1/21/80) / Felix Centeno (DOB 10/26/63) / Kevin E. Williams (DOB 10/7/69) - 08CR2890.  (Murder; GAITHER:Tampering with Physical Evidence)  The defendants are charged in connection with the August 19, 2008 shooting death of Antonio Tharp in the 400 block of Wilberforce Court in the Beecher Terrace public housing complex.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Monday, August 10, Division 11, at 1:00 P.M.  Kristi Gray is the prosecutor.

 

4.      Don S. Fielder – 09CR0574.  (Murder, Rape 1st Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence)  Mr. Fielder (DOB 8/16/83) is charged in connection with the February 12, 2009 death of Antigone Graham Smith at her apartment on Zachary Circle in the Park Place Apartments.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, Division 12, at 9:30 A.M.  Erin White is the prosecutor.

 

5.      Kevin D. Luther – 09CR0794.  (Theft by Unlawful Taking >$300 [95 Counts])  Mr. Luther (DOB 4/24/65) is charged in connection with the unlawful taking of funds from the Hyatt Regency Hotel between March 2007 and December 2008  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, Division 12, at 9:00 A.M.  Stacy Greive is the prosecutor.

 

6.      Robert H. Thomas – 09CR1539.  (Murder, Attempted Murder, Tampering with Physical Evidence)  Mr. Thomas (DOB 12/15/49) is charged in connection with the May 19, 2009 stabbing death of Rosemary Stinson in an alley in the 1800 block of Duncan Street.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Friday, August 14, Division 3, at 10:15 A.M.  Ryane Conroy is the prosecutor.

 

7.      Deqontay Dunnaway (DOB 4/22/88) / Antonio Robinson (DOB 6/24/82) / Jeffrey Robinson (DOB 9/5/86) / Demetrice Thornton (DOB 4/2/89) / Michael A. Wilson (DOB 7/7/86) – 08CR3803.  (Murder [2Counts], Tampering with Physical Evidence [2 Counts], Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, Receiving a Stolen Firearm, Criminal Syndication)  The defendants are charged in connection with the November 28, 2008 shooting death of Eugene Staten and the December 13, 2008 shooting death of Dontay Irvin.  Both incidents happened at 43rd and Market streets.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Friday, August 14, Division 7 at 10:30 A.M.  Lisa Cartier Giroux is the prosecutor.

 

8.      Dewayne D. Smith – 09CR2206.  (Murder, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Intoxicants)  Mr. Smith (DOB 6/4/88) is charged in connection with the July 24, 2009 crash in the 4800 block of Cane Run Road that resulted in the death of William Keeth.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Friday, August 14, Division 11, at 11:00 A.M.  Kristi Gray is the prosecutor.

 

9.      Todd M. Brown (DOB 5/13/92) / Leslye M. Harbin (DOB 2/8/92) / Howard M. Williams, Jr. (DOB 12/27/90) - 08CR1045.  (Murder, Assault 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree)  The defendants are charged in connection with the February 15, 2008 shooting death of Branden Trumbo in a parking lot at 22nd Street and Broadway.  A Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for Friday, August 14, Division 5, at 2:00 P.M.  Michelle Rudovich is the prosecutor.

 

 

TRIAL

 

1.      Raymal L. Rivers – 06CR1806.  (Murder, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Wanton Endangerment [12 Counts])  Mr. Rivers (DOB 10/10/79) is charged in connection with the May 27, 2006 shooting death of Larry Johnson in the McDonald’s restaurant parking lot in the 12000 block of Lagrange Road.  A Trial is tentatively scheduled for Monday, August 10, Division 12, at 10:00 A.M.  Katherine Kingren is the prosecutor.

 

2.      Martin Phillip Jackson – 07CR1666.  (Kidnapping, Assault 2nd Degree, Attempted Rape 1st Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police, Operating a Taxi Without a Valid License, Persistent Felony Offender 2nd Degree)  Mr. Jackson (DOB 5/17/66) is charged in connection with the May 5, 2007 abduction and beating of a female victim.  A Trial is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, Division 1, at 9:00 A.M.  Jennifer Wilcox and Ryane Conroy are the prosecutors.

 

 

SENTENCING

 

1.      Kenneth P. Gatewood – 08CR1184.  Mr. Gatewood (DOB 3/11/82) was found guilty of Murder in connection with the March 17, 2006 shooting death of Kerivan Muniz Vargas in the 700 block of Clay Street.  Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, Division 1, at 9:00 A.M.  Mark Baker is the prosecutor.
