A defendant is presumed innocent until or unless found guilty. The enclosed court actions are subject to change.

According to the Rules of Criminal Procedure (RCr 3.02, 3.05, and 8.01), the arraignment of individuals whose case has been submitted directly to the grand jury shall take place within a reasonable time after the return of an indictment. If you are interested in a case that has been submitted directly to the grand jury, then please contact the court division in which it has been assigned to obtain the time and date of the arraignment.

ARRAIGNMENTS

Henry Junie Crawford – 18CR2145 (Rape in the First Degree, Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree)

  • Mr. Crawford (DOB 11/6/64) is charged with raping and assaulting a female victim on August 30, 1983.  The sexual assault kit in this case was tested as part of the Sexual Assault Kit Backlog Elimination Program.  Arraignment is scheduled for July 30, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. in Division 1 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Ryane Conroy is the prosecutor.

PRETRIAL CONFERENCES

Mr. Robert Mitchell and Ms. Stephanie Smith – 17CR2122 & 17CR2554 (Unlawful Use of Electronic Means to Induce a Minor to Engage in Sexual Performance, Illegal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree – Methamphetamine, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor [2 counts])

  • Mr. Mitchell (DOB 10/13/73) and Ms. Smith (07/22/86) are charged with encouraging a minor to engage in a sexual performance. The two posted an ad to Craigslist in search of a young girl to perform sexual activities. An undercover agent responded and set up a meeting. When the defendants arrived to the meeting, they had their two minor children inside their vehicle and were in possession of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia. A pretrial conference is scheduled for August 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Division 4 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Madison Shoffner is the prosecutor.

TRIALS

John Christopher Claunch & Joseph Tatum-Green – 18CR0427 & 18CR2157 (Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon [Claunch], Receiving Stolen Firearm [Both], Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree [Claunch])

  • Mr. Claunch (DOB 01/26/92) and Mr. Tatum-Green (DOB 05/19/95) are charged with knowingly possessing a stolen firearm.  Mr. Claunch is a convicted felon who also possessed another—not stolen—handgun.  A jury trial is scheduled to begin on July 30, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in Division 4 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Corey Taylor and Sydney Garrett are the prosecutors.

William Mattingly– 15CR3102 (Murder, Criminal Attempt Murder, Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Mattingly (DOB 05/09/75) is charged in connection with the November 13, 2015, strangulation death of Thomas Grismer in a hotel room at the Red Roof Inn located at 4704 Preston Highway. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 30, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in Division 9 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Stacy Greive and Chris Foster are the prosecutors.

Katina Latrece Powell – 18CR2148 (Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree [3 counts] and Theft by Deception Over $500 but less than $10,000 [3 counts].

  • Ms. Powell (DOB 06/09/81) is charged with having cashed forged checks on three separate occasions in April 2018 at Vermont Liquors. Her arraignment is scheduled for Monday, July 23, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in Division 5 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Jeff Cooke is the prosecutor.

PRETRIAL CONFERENCES

Silky Kenneth Clark – 17CR3491 (Human Trafficking, Use of a Minor in a Sexual Performance, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Unlawful Transaction with a Minor, Distribution of Matter Portraying Sexual Performance by a Minor [19 Counts], Possession of Matter Portraying Sexual Performance by a Minor [19 Counts])

  • Mr. Clark (DOB 08/26/78) is charged with promoting the prostitution of and advancing prostitution sex for money with a child 17 years of age. From his cell phone, the defendant would post advertisements for the prostitution for the 17 year old. The prostitution occurred from and within his home. A pretrial conference is scheduled for July 26, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. in Division 9 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Sheri Wornall is the prosecutor.

HEARINGS

James Mallory, Anthony L. Hogan Jr., and Cannon Pendegrass – 12CR1317 (Murder, Burglary in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Mallory (DOB 09/05/82), Mr. Hogan, (DOB 06/16/93), and Mr. Pendegrass (DOB 12/14/89) are charged with the April 11, 2012 Murder of 15 year old Gregory Holt Jr. inside his home. Mr. Mallory’s case has been severed from his two co-defendants and will be tried individually. A hearing for pretrial motions in Mr. Mallory’s case is scheduled for July 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Division 12 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Dorislee Gilbert and Madison Shoffner are the prosecutors.

TRIALS

 Stacey Denise Caldwell – 16CR3221 (Arson in the Second Degree)

  • Ms. Caldwell (DOB 01/12/69) is charged with intentionally igniting a fire that destroyed her 2011 Chevrolet Camaro. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on July 24, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in Division 6 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Milja Zgonjanin is the prosecutor.
