NOTE: These represent only a few of the many cases which the Office of Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney is handling. If you have any comments, or need further information concerning these or any other matters please do not hesitate to call. An indictment is only an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until or unless found guilty. The enclosed court actions are subject to change.

According to the Rules of Criminal Procedure (RCr 3.02, 3.05, and 8.01), the arraignment of individuals whose case has been submitted directly to the grand jury shall take place within a reasonable time after the return of an indictment. If you are interested in a case that has been submitted directly to the grand jury, then please contact the court division in which it has been assigned to obtain the time and date of the arraignment.

PRETRIALS

Robert Lee Ray, Jr. and Angela R. Chancellor– 17CR1824 (Robbery in the First Degree [Ray 17 Counts; Chancellor 8 Counts], Burglary in the First Degree [3 Counts] Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree [Ray])

  • Mr. Ray (DOB 06/28/78) and Ms. Chancellor (07/02/82) are charged in connection with a string of armed robberies of individuals that began on June 12, 2017 and continued until their arrest on June 17, 2017.  A bond hearing for both defendants is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 9:45 a.m. in Division 5 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Stacy Greive is the prosecutor.

Jonathan Detwiler – 17CR1480 (Robbery in the First Degree [4 Counts], Burglary in the First Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence,  Theft By Unlawful Taking under $500, Illegal Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia)

  • Mr. Detwiler (DOB 03/25/84) is charged in connection with a string of robberies occurring on May 16, 2017 in St. Matthews. A pretrial conference is scheduled for October 2, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. in Division 3 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Milja Zgonjanin is the prosecutor.

Justin Curry – 17CR2410 (Murder, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Persistent Felony Offender in the Second Degree)

  • Mr. Curry (DOB 01/25/88) is charged with the August 5, 2017 shooting of James Harris while Mr. Curry was out on bond on the Home Incarceration Program (HIP) at the time of the shooting.  Mr. Harris died as a result of his injuries.  A first Pretrial Conference is scheduled for October 2, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. in Division 3 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Emily Lantz is the prosecutor.

Kenneth Dwayne Willis – 16CR1934 (Murder, Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree [Heroin])

  • Mr. Willis (DOB 09/10/64) is charged with the July 12, 2016, shooting death of Ashley Spriggs at 2323 West Muhammad Ali Boulevard.  A pretrial conference is scheduled for Thursday, October 5, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in Division 6 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

Chad Erdley – 17CR1791 (Murder [2 counts], Assault in the First Degree [2 counts], Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree [11 counts], Criminal Mischief in the First Degree [2 counts], Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Intoxicants – First Offense (aggravating circumstances))

  • Mr. Erdley (DOB 07/05/73) is charged in connection to a collision that occurred on January 29, 2017, resulting in fatal injuries to two pedestrians. A pretrial conference is scheduled for October 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Division 8 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Milja Zgonjanin is the prosecutor.

Tiffany James– 17CR1937 (Murder)

  • Ms. James (DOB 03/17/98) is charged in connection with the June 26, 2017 stabbing death of a 14 year old girl at the Speedway in Portland.  A pretrial conference is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Division 8 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Stacy Greive is the prosecutor.

Nathan Cason and Ashley Thompson – 17CR2375 (Burglary in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree [3 counts], Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Receiving Stolen Property over $10,000 [2 counts], Theft By Deception over $500 [2 counts], Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument [8 counts], Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card over $500 [3 counts], Theft by Unlawful Taking over $500, Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree [2 counts], Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card under $500, and Theft by Unlawful Taking under $500)

  • Mr. Cason (DOB 10/09/89) and Ms. Thompson (DOB 11/28/91) are charged with multiple crimes resulting from a spree of theft-related offenses that occurred between April 26, 2017, and June 16, 2017.  The spree came to an end on June 16, 2017, when Mr. Cason was caught during a burglary.  Ms. Thompson fled the scene and the homeowner held Mr. Cason at gunpoint until police arrived. A first Pretrial Conference is scheduled for October 2, 2017 at 9:45 a.m. in Division 12 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Emily Lantz is the prosecutor.

SENTENCING

Deontae D. Yarnell – 15CR2214

  • Mr. Yarnell (DOB 07/23/93), was convicted of Reckless Homicide for the August 8, 2015, shooting death of Mr. Deandre Murphy near 5241 Halsey Court.  A Trial was held the week of August 14, 2017. The jury recommended a 1 year sentence. Sentencing is set for Monday, October 2, 2017, at 8:30am in Division 3 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.
