According to the Rules of Criminal Procedure (RCr 3.02, 3.05, and 8.01), the arraignment of individuals whose case has been submitted directly to the grand jury shall take place within a reasonable time after the return of an indictment. If you are interested in a case that has been submitted directly to the grand jury, then please contact the court division in which it has been assigned to obtain the time and date of the arraignment.

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

William Crockett – 15CR0057 (Murder, Burglary in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Crockett (DOB 12/19/61) was charged in connection with the January 1, 2015, shooting death of Anna Fisher. A trial began on May 9, 2017 in Division 12 of Jefferson Circuit Court and the Defendant was found guilty of Murder and Burglary in the First Degree. The jury recommended a sentence of 27 years in prison. Final sentencing is scheduled for June 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Division 13 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Alicia Gomez and Tom Wine are the prosecutors.

Joseph Waggoner – 15CR0761 (Unlawful Transaction with a Minor in the First Degree [2 Counts], Indecent Exposure, and Possession of Marijuana)

  • Mr. Waggoner (DOB 04/04/87) was charged in connection with his relationship with a 15 year old minor. On May 19, 2017, the defendant was convicted by a jury of the above charges. The defendant agreed to serve a 5 year sentence and will become a lifetime registrant on the Sex Offender Registry. Final sentencing is scheduled for January 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Division 5 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Nathan Ray Batey II is the prosecutor.

SENTENCING

Kalief A. Cummings – 15CR2303, 16CR0367 (Assault in the First Degree [Two Counts], Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Cummings (DOB 12/11/69) was found guilty by a jury of stabbing two sisters who were visiting Louisville for a bachelorette party.  The incident occurred on August 23, 2015, near Fourth and Liberty Streets.  The Jury recommended an enhanced sentence of 35 years in prison. Final sentencing is scheduled for May 25, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. in Division 13 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Elizabeth Jones Brown is the prosecutor.

TRIALS

Tiffany Cecil – 16CR1137 (Criminal Abuse in the First Degree and Criminal Abuse in the Second Degree)

  • Ms. Cecil (DOB 10/14/94) is accused of hitting her child repeatedly about her head placing her at risk of serious traumatic brain injury and for medical neglect. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in division 8 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Nathan R. Batey II is the prosecutor.
