According to the Rules of Criminal Procedure (RCr 3.02, 3.05, and 8.01), the arraignment of individuals whose case has been submitted directly to the grand jury shall take place within a reasonable time after the return of an indictment. If you are interested in a case that has been submitted directly to the grand jury, then please contact the court division in which it has been assigned to obtain the time and date of the arraignment.

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

Brandon Lewis – 14CR3000 (Robbery in the Second Degree [Six counts])

  • Mr. Lewis (DOB 11/16/86) was found guilty of five counts of Robbery in the Second Degree by jury trial on November 10, 2016. Mr. Lewis subsequently pled guilty to the remaining count of Robbery in the Second Degree under the original indictment. The Defendant agreed to serve 10 years for all six robberies.  His sentence was enhanced to 20 years due to his status as a Persistent Felony Offender in the Second Degree. Final Sentencing is scheduled for January 3, 2017 at 10:45 a.m. in Division 4 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Amanda Hernandez is the prosecutor.

ARRAIGNMENTS

Darnell Eugene Hampton Jr. – 16CR3055 (Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon and Illegal Possession of a Controlled Substance [Marijuana])

  • Mr. Hampton (DOB 01/15/93) was stopped by police while sitting in a parked car that emitted a strong odor of marijuana. Mr. Hampton admitted that the vehicle belonged to him and that the glove box contained a baggie of marijuana, which also belonged to him, and a handgun, which did not.  At the time of his arrest, Mr. Hampton was out of custody on shock probation for his conviction in indictment number 14CR0396.  Under that indictment, he was convicted of Facilitation to Murder and Robbery in the Second Degree. Mr. Hampton is scheduled to be arraigned on his new charges on November 21, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in Division 9 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Justin Janes is the prosecutor.

Henry Dwayne Wiley – 16CR3038 (Robbery in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Wiley (DOB 09/26/63) is charged in connection with the robbery of the Shop-n-Go located at 3901 Taylor Boulevard. The Defendant entered the store holding a white “Scream” mask, approached the counter, produced a handgun, and demanded that the clerk step back from the register as he took business cash.  The Defendant never put the mask on and dropped it, along with the hat he was wearing, on the floor of the business as he fled. The Defendant was later interviewed by police and admitted to committing the robbery.  Mr. Wiley is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges on November 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Division 4 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Critt Cunningham is the prosecutor.

PRETRIAL CONFERENCES

Christopher L. McCullum – 15CR0968 (Murder, Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence)

  • Mr. McCullum (DOB 02/21/72) is charged in connection with the February 21, 2015, shooting death of Mukhtar Ahmad on I-71.  A pre-trial conference is scheduled on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Division 7 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Ryan Olberding is the prosecutor.

Andrew Dunn – 16CR2217 (Robbery in the Second Degree)

  • Mr. Dunn (DOB 01/01/1986) is charged with the July 31, 2016 robbery of Mo’s Food Mart at 1036 Goss Avenue.  A Pretrial Conference is scheduled for December 1, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. in Division 10 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Emily Cecil is the prosecutor.

Isaiah Hayes and Destiny Rhodes- 16CR2025 (Robbery in the First Degree [Nine counts])

  • Mr. Hayes (DOB 11/19/93) and Ms. Rhodes (DOB 06/05/96) are charged with committing multiple business robberies between June 26, 2016, and July 22, 2016, at Walgreens Stores throughout Jefferson County.   A pretrial conference is scheduled for Monday, November 21, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in Division 3 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

Patrick S. Hudson – 16CR0397 (Receiving Stolen Property over $10,000, Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Hudson (DOB 07/21/69) is charged following an accident that occurred on December 3, 2015. On that date, the Defendant was driving a stolen flatbed delivery truck, valued at $70,000, when he struck a marked police cruiser on the front driver’s side of the vehicle.  After striking the vehicle, the Defendant unsuccessfully attempted to drive over the front of the vehicle.  The victim was initially trapped inside the police cruiser as the Defendant fled the scene on foot.  A pretrial conference is scheduled for November 28, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in Division 11 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Madison Shoffner is the prosecutor.

Jimmy Jackson III – 16CR2537 (Rape in the First Degree [4 counts], Sodomy in the First Degree [4 counts], Robbery in the First Degree [4 counts], Kidnapping [2 counts] Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Jackson (DOB 06/02/1995) is charged in connection with the rape, sodomy, and robbery of four women between September 6, 2016 and September 8, 2016.  An investigation revealed that on two occasions, the defendant acted with an unknown accomplice.  A Pretrial Conference and Bond Hearing is scheduled for November 21, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. in Division 7 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Emily Cecil is the prosecutor.

HEARINGS

Brice Jamar Rhodes – 16CR1891 (Murder [Three Counts], Tampering with Physical Evidence, Abuse of a Corpse [Two Counts], Receiving Stolen Property)

  • Mr. Rhodes (DOB 09/8/90) is charged with the May 4, 2016, murder of Christopher Jones on the 800 block of 41st Street, and the May 22, 2016, murder of two children, sixteen-year-old Maurice Gordon and fourteen-year-old Larry Ordway, at 763 N. Hite Avenue.  He is also charged with attempting to dispose of evidence related to this case and of attempting to burn the bodies of the victims, which were discovered in the rear of 4028 River Park Drive.  A bond hearing is scheduled to occur December 1, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Division 4 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  His current bond on the murder case is one million dollars, or $1,000,000.  In addition to these charges, Mr. Rhodes was indicted on November 16 in case number 16CR3045, on charges of Intimidating a Participant in the Legal Process and Terroristic Threatening in the Third Degree.  Normally, that would be arraigned next Monday, but Judge Cunningham arraigned him while he was in court on November 17, and passed the case with Mr. Rhodes’ other cases to a Pretrial Conference on February 7.   The bond in the judicial threat case is $10,000.  Elizabeth Jones Brown is the prosecutor.

SENTENCINGS

Anthony Chinn – 15CR2662 (Tampering with Physical Evidence, Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Chinn (DOB 10/23/1977) was found guilty on October 3, 2016 of Tampering with Physical Evidence in connection with a robbery that occurred on November 11, 2014, in the 600 block of S. 39th Street.  The jury recommended a sentence of 15 years.  Sentencing is scheduled for November 30, 2016 at 8:30 in Division 7 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Emily Cecil is the prosecutor.

HEARINGS

Patrick Burage, Stephon Craig, Wallace Louis, Jr., Wallecia Louis, Brandon Rauh, Robin Toole, and Mario Vricic – 14CR2416 (Robbery in the First Degree [Multiple Counts])

  • Messrs. Burage (DOB 09/03/92), Craig (DOB 08/15/86), Louis (DOB 11/19/87), Rauh (DOB 09/26/92), Vricic (DOB 09/30/93), Ms. Louis (DOB 04/14/89), and Ms. Toole (DOB 03/18/86), are charged in connection with multiple robberies of Radio Shack and Verizon Wireless stores between June 13, 2014, and September 5, 2014. A suppression hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. in Division 1 of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

PRETRIAL CONFERENCES

Kenneth Leon Pope – 15CR1906 (Murder, Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Persistent Felony Offender in the Second Degree)

  • Mr. Pope (DOB 05/12/98) is charged with the July 4, 2015, shooting death of Mr. Tyron Jones in the 400 block of South 12th Street. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in Division 4 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

Destiny Rhodes- 16CR2580 (Robbery in the First Degree [Three Counts]; Kidnapping [Three Counts]; Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card under $500)

  • Ms. Rhodes (DOB 06/05/1996) is charged in connection with the robbery and kidnapping of three women at 4th Street Live on June 17, 2016.   A pretrial conference is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15 at 9:15 a.m. in Division 9 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

Brice Jamar Rhodes – 16CR1891 (Murder [Three Counts], Tampering with Physical Evidence, Abuse of a Corpse [Two Counts], Receiving Stolen Property)

Kenneth Dwayne Willis – 16CR1934 (Murder, Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree [Heroin])

  • Mr. Willis (DOB 09/10/64) is charged with the July 12, 2016, shooting death of Ashley Spriggs at 2323 West Muhammad Ali Boulevard. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Division 6 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

BJ Starlight- 16CR0298, 16CR1358, and 16CR0035 (Theft by Unlawful Taking over $10,000 [Three Counts], Receiving Stolen Property over $10,000, Illegal Use or Possession of a Radio that Send/Receives Police Messages, Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree, and Escape in the Second Degree)

  • Mr. Starlight (DOB 02/28/51) is charged with stealing or possessing stolen vehicles taken from car dealerships between March 4, 2015, and April 8, 2015. Mr. Starlight has a lengthy criminal history including shooting a Kentucky State Police Officer in 1977 and leading police on a four county police chase in 2012. He is also charged with escaping custody on January 19, 2016, when he failed to return to CCC from a release and was located 8 days later in Madison County, Kentucky.  A pretrial conference regarding his charge of Escape in the Second Degree is scheduled for Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 9:15 in Division 3 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  A pretrial conference for all other charges is scheduled for Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 9:15 in Division 3 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

Isaiah Hayes- 16CR2529 (Burglary in the First Degree and Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree [Three Counts])

  • Mr. Hayes (DOB 11/19/93) is charged with a July 21, 2016, burglary of a home. When the homeowner saw the defendant in her home he fled and pointed a gun and shot at witnesses in the neighborhood.  A pretrial conference is scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 10:30 in Division 4 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

TRIALS

Derek Roark – 15CR2875 (Tampering with Physical Evidence, Abuse of a Corpse, and Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Roark (DOB 10/15/76) is charged with placing the body of Jeffrey Kingdon (DOB 11/30/59) in a box he built for that purpose, and then dumping the box containing Mr. Kingdon’s body in an uninhabited wooded area near South Park Road, sometime between October 10 and October 13, 2015.  A trial is tentatively scheduled for November 15 at 9:45 a.m. in Division 2 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Elizabeth Jones Brown is the prosecutor.

Joshua Inman and Jeffrey Stine – 15CR1356 (Assault in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Inman (DOB 07/15/92) and Mr. Stine (DOB 07/24/91) are charged with the March 10, 2015, stabbing following an altercation with the victim near 3822 Parthenia Ave. A Trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 14, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in Division 5 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

Nathan Doss – 14CR2604 (Manslaughter in the Second Degree [Three Counts], Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree [Three Counts], Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Doss (DOB 09/25/81) has been indicted for causing a collision at the intersection of Lower Hunters Trace and Greenbelt Highway on September 28, 2014, that resulted in the deaths of Gary Miller, Heather Smith and Stevie Smith, and created a danger of death or serious physical injury to other drivers.  A jury trial is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in Division 6 of Jefferson Circuit Court.  Kristi Gray is the prosecutor.
