A defendant is presumed innocent until or unless found guilty. The enclosed court actions are subject to change.

According to the Rules of Criminal Procedure (RCr 3.02, 3.05, and 8.01), the arraignment of individuals whose case has been submitted directly to the grand jury shall take place within a reasonable time after the return of an indictment. If you are interested in a case that has been submitted directly to the grand jury, then please contact the court division in which it has been assigned to obtain the time and date of the arraignment.

ARRAIGNMENT

Judy and William Hiser, 15CR2266 (Facilitation of Rape in the First Degree [Seven Counts], Facilitation of Incest [Seven Counts], Facilitation of Sodomy in the First Degree [Four Counts], Facilitation of Unlawful Transaction with a Minor in the First Degree, and Facilitation of Use of a Minor in a Sexual Performance)

  •  Ms. Hiser (DOB 1/23/78) and Mr. Hiser (DOB 4/23/74) are charged in connection with child sex abuse involving Mr. Larry Wayne Lewis. Arraignment is set for Monday, August 31, 2015, at 2:00 p.m in Division Ten of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Arraignment may occur earlier. Mr. Nathan Ray Batey II is the assigned prosecutor.  

Brandon A. Washington and Canon Harper, 15CR2253 (Criminal Attempt Murder [Two Counts], Complicity to Assault in the First Degree [two counts] Complicity to Robbery in the First Degree, Complicity to Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon [Washington Only], and Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Messrs Washington (DOB 5/15/95) and Harper (DOB 10/15/95) are charged with the above listed offenses for a robbery and shooting incident that occurred on May 23, 2015, at a residence located at 1922 Portland Avenue. As a result of the shooting, one of the victims has been restricted to the use of a wheelchair and the other suffered a significant leg injury. Arrest warrants for both defendants are currently active. Arraignment is set for Monday, August 31, 2015, at 2:oo p.m. in Division Ten of the Jefferson Circuit Court.  

Christopher Priest, 15CR2264 (Robbery in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Priest (DOB 6/4/81) is charged in connection with the August 19, 2015, robbery at Kentucky Telco Federal Credit Union. Mr. Priest’s arraignment for this offense took place yesterday. A pretrial conference is scheduled for October 14, 2015, at 10:15 a.m. in Division Four of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Mrs. Cortney Hardin is the prosecutor.

PRETRIAL CONFERENCE

Kenneth Leon Pope, 15CR1906 (Murder, Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Persistent Felony Offender in the Second Degree)

  • Mr. Pope (DOB 5/12/98) is charged with the July 4, 2015, shooting death of Mr. Tyron Jones in the 400 block of South 12th Street. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Division Four of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Mrs. Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

Michael A. Thornton, 15CR1981 (Criminal Attempt Murder (Police Officer), Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree [Four Counts], Assault in the Third Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Receiving Stolen Property Over $500, Escape in the Second Degree, Theft By Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property over $500, Tampering with a Prisoner Monitoring Device, and Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Thornton (DOB 5/10/84) is charged with the April 2, 2015, Attempted Murder of Officer John Hagan that occurred near 225 N. Clifton Avenue, following his escape from the Home Incarceration Program. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 9:15 a.m. in Division Eleven of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Mrs. Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

William Dennison and Dominic Cloud 15-CR-2022 (Robbery in the First Degree [8 counts for Dennison, 9 counts for Cloud] and Robbery in the Second Degree [5 counts for each defendant])

  • Messrs. Dennison (DOB 9/16/96) and Cloud (DOB 5/22/97) are charged with a total of 17 business robberies in June and July of 2015. A pretrial conference is scheduled for September 2, 2015, at 10:00 am in Division Eleven of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Mr. Brenton Stanley is the prosecutor.

HEARING

Deontae D. Yarnell, 15CR2214 (Murder)

  • Mr. Yarnell (DOB 7/23/1993), is charged with the August 8, 2015, shooting death of Mr. Deandre Murphy near 5241 Halsey Court. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. in Division Three of Jefferson Circuit Court. Mrs. Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

TRIAL

Orlando Gilmore, 14CR2550  (Murder, Retaliating Against a Participant in the Legal Process, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Persistent Felony Offender in the Second Degree)

  • Mr. Gilmore (DOB 1/19/1987) is charged with the July 27, 2013, shooting death of Mr. Gregory Sawyers. At the time, Mr. Sawyers was a key witness scheduled to testify in a federal murder case against Mr. Ricky Kelly and Mr. Dion Neal. A trial is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in Division Three of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Ms. Elizabeth Jones Brown and Ms. Shelly Alvey are the prosecutors. 

Anthony John Jecker 14-CR-1887 (Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence)

  • Mr. Jecker (DOB 3/22/60) has been charged with the July 14, 2014, murder of Mr. James Scott Tolle. Mr. Jecker is alleged to have shot Mr. Tolle, Mr. Jecker’s landlord, once in the chest after a dispute over Mr. Jecker’s electric bill. A jury trial is scheduled for September 1, 2015, at 10:00 am in Division Twelve of Jefferson Circuit Court. Mr. Brenton Stanley and Ms. Ryane Conroy are the prosecutors. 

SENTENCING

Herman Noah, 15CR0852 (Possession of Matter Portraying a Sexual Performance by a Minor (9 Counts))

  • On August 28, 2015, in Division Nine of the Jefferson Circuit Court, Mr. Noah (DOB 3/4/76) was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to nine counts of Possession of Matter Portraying a Sexual Performance by a Minor on June 12, 2015. Mr. Nathan Ray Batey II was the assigned prosecutor.   

Na’Shawn Mills, 13CR1859 (Murder, Criminal Attempt Murder, Robbery in the First Degree, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Persistent Felony Offender in the Second Degree)

  • On July 6, 2015, Mr. Mills (DOB 2/18/92) pleaded guilty to the July 1, 2013, murder of Mr. Brandon Shackelford, and the attempted shooting of Mr. Dewayne Hill, Jr.  Mr. Mills shot Mr. Shackelford in his car on the 8500 block of Beulah Church Road and fired a shot in the direction of Mr. Hill.  After the shooting, Mr. Mills drove the victim’s car, along with his body, to Cox’s park where he attempted to set the car on fire in order to dispose of the evidence.  Formal sentencing is scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Division Nine of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Ms. Elizabeth Jones Brown is the prosecutor.

Joseph Johnson, 12CR3368 and 12CR3772 (Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, Fleeing and Fleeing and Evading Police in the First Degree, Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon)  

  • Mr. Johnson (DOB 2/21/49) entered a plea on July 6, 2015, to Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Trafficking in Controlled Substance, Fleeing and Evading Police in the First Degree, Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, and other charges.  The recommended sentence is 30 years.  On October 23, 2012, Mr. Johnson was the subject of a narcotics investigation and fled from police in his vehicle.  While fleeing, he struck and killed Stephanie Melson. Cocaine was discovered in his vehicle, and drugs and weapons were also recovered during a search of his residence. Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at 9:45 in Division Eleven of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Ms. Kristi Gray is the prosecutor.
